Rotary MU/KU Basketball Challenge at Chautauqua

ku-muVisit the Gallatin Rotary booth at Chautauqua on the Square in Gallatin September 14th for our basketball challenge and a chance to win an autographed basketball from your choice of University of Missouri or University of Kansas.

The competition will run from 9am to 4pm.  Winners will be announced on stage at 7pm (winners can also be notified by phone).

Congratulations Julia Filley – Paul Harris Fellow

Paul Harris AwardThe Gallatin Rotary Club announced Julia Filley as the club’s 2013 Paul Harris Fellow.  The ceremony presented a Rotary certificate, medallion and special rotary pin to Mrs. Filley.  The award represents a substantial contribution to the humanitarian and educational programs of Rotary International as supported by the Rotary Foundation.  This is the second time that she has received the award since first receiving it in 2003.

The Gallatin Rotary Club has named Rotarian Vicki Corwin as the Club Champion 2012-2013.    Besides being the club’s treasurer, Vicki is always thinking Rotary and promoting Rotary projects and causes whether at the local or the international level.

Vicki’s received a certificate and pin for her hard work at the noon meeting  of the Gallatin Rotary Club on May 7 . Shown in the photo is Gallatin Club President, Kyle Parkhurst and  District Governor ,  Kenny Harris who presented the award.

Vicki’s sense of humor and dedication is an inspiration for everyone in Rotary.  She is always ready to roll up her sleeves and tackle any job.

Shoes for Orphan Souls 014The Gallatin Rotary Club donated its collection of 75 pairs of new shoes for Buckner International’s Shoes for Orphan Souls during the recent Rotary District 6040 “Shoes Caravan” conducted on May 4.

In partnership with the other 54 Rotary Clubs in Missouri Rotary District 6040, a total of 11,332 pairs of shoes, 1,315 pairs of socks and nearly $16,000 were collected for international orphans in the Dominican Republic.  This humanitarian aid was collected during the multi-stop Shoes Caravan, starting in Blue Springs, MO on April 27 and ending in Parkville, Missouri on May 4.

“Kyle Parkhurst, president of the Gallatin Rotary Club said, “As Rotarians, we want to provide service to our local community and to people in need around the world. Donating shoes is so simple, but it makes such a big impact in the lives of needy children.  I appreciate all the work and time our members donated to this project.”

Gallatin Rotary 2013 Scholarship

scholarshipThe Gallatin Rotary Club is pleased to offer an educational scholarship to Gallatin High School Seniors.

This $100 scholarship is for an outstanding Gallatin Senior that has demonstrated Rotary’s Motto “Service above Self.”   The application requires an essay of a minimum of 500 words typed. This essay will explain/show how you as an individual have demonstrated “Service above Self” in your life.   The application deadline is April 30, 2013.

State Rep. Casey Guernsey Presents at Gallatin Rotary

casey_03-19-13The Gallatin Rotary Club received a update from Missouri State Representative Casey Guernsey at their regular weekly meeting Tuesday.  Representative Guernsey spoke about current legislation on subjects including department streamlining, welfare reform, and exemption for schools from prevailing wage.  He spoke positively regarding increased cooperation from the Governor this year and the prospects for improving efficiency throughout the state.

The Rotary Club of Gallatin meets every Tuesday, noon to 1:00pm at Cycles Restaurant at 200 Park Street in Gallatin.  For more information on Rotary projects or to learn about joining the Club, contact any Gallatin Rotary member or contact us online.

Students of the Month Recognized with Rotary Support

Covel D. Searcy Elementary November Students of the Month were recognized at the December Character Champs Assembly on Dec. 5.  Students of the Month received Paw Medallions and Award Certificates sponsored by the Gallatin Rotary Club.

The Gallatin Rotary Club sponsored the fifth annual Gallatin Alumni Basketball Tournament on Saturday, November 3rd.  Approximately 36 men, from the Class of 1988 to the Class of 2010, signed up to play at this year’s tournament.  The four teams participated in a round robin and The Sophomores won the tournament.

Proceeds support the RYLA youth camp, district scholarship and various needs in the community.

Gallatin Alumni Basketball Tournament this Weekend

Join us on Saturday, November 3rd, 9:00am – 3:00pm at the Gallatin High School Gym.

Admission is $2.  Concessions will be available.  All proceeds go to the Gallatin Rotary Club for Local Community Service Projects.
